CHIPS stands for Children’s Integrated Playschemes. We offer play and social opportunities for children with additional needs aged 3 to 19 living in Eastern Hertfordshire between Bishops Stortford and Waltham Cross. Brothers and sisters are strongly encouraged to join as we believe that all children should play together regardless of their needs.
We run 2.5 hour playschemes on Saturdays throughout term time, 3 day long playschemes at Easter and Christmas, plus 3 week summer playschemes (10am – 3:30pm) during the holidays. During our Playschemes, alongside free play, we offer a wide variety of activities such as baking, sports and arts and crafts, plus exciting trips out to lots of different places such as Zoo’s, the beach, bowling and more! We offer one to one care where required, with experienced staff and volunteers.
CHIPS Teen Group
Our Teens Group (13-19 yrs) meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon and for 2-3 days during school holidays. They generally go out on visits and use public transport. There is limited support so the group is not suitable for Teens needing one to one support.
The group aims to provide opportunities to develop social skills with peers and to practice life skills such as using money and public transport.
We offer specialist clubs outside of our playschemes for:
ChatSS – Parent/Carer Support Group
This is the parent support group of CHIPS . We are a small, friendly, informal group, run by parents for parents. Our group is varied – our children/young people suffer from a wide range of conditions including (but not limited to !) ASD, epilepsy, chromosomal abnormalities, ADHD and have mild to severe learning difficulties. If you are a parent/ carer of children with Additional or Special Needs you would be very welcome to join us, even if you live outside the CHIPS catchment area . Children are also welcome, too. There is no pressure to attend regularly or even stay for the whole session – we know that your free time can be limited and unpredictable! We have speakers at most meetings- these can be informative, or just for fun. Here is our current list of speakers for the year 2017, but please do join us even if they are not of interest to you at the moment as there is always time for a chat and some refreshments at every meeting. You can find out more about ChatSS and their timetable over at their website: http://www.chatss.org.uk.
