We’ve had some amazing fundraisers in our time running CHIPS, but this one is quite possibly THE BIGGEST YET!
On the 30th of September 2017, CHIPS Trustee Hazel Smith will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest attendance to a Nordic Walking Lesson ever! Our goal is 350 people, and it’s your perfect chance to get yourself into the record books!
Attending the day is absolutely FREE – we’ll be collecting donations for taking part in the FREE lesson, for CHIPS, and there will be some refreshments available on the day to purchase and other fun to take part in too! So, without further ado, here’s some more info on the event from Hazel, and the FREE ticket sign up is just below!
So, Hazel, tell us, what exactly is Nordic Walking?
Nordic Walking is an enhancement of normal walking. We use poles to propel the walker forward, using the upper body to create power and use energy to walk faster. Nordic Walking first started in Norway, off season Cross Country Skiers needed to keep fit while there was no snow, it’s now the fastest growing sport in the UK.15 minutes of NW will burn 100 calories. I started in 2010, I thought it was the perfect sport for me as I love the outdoors and enjoy walking. I teach five classes per week, the groups are friendly, sociable and non-competitive. I have around 50 active walkers.
What’s the current World Record we’ll be trying to beat?
The current World Record for the largest Nordic Walking lesson stands at 250 people. I want to break it with 350.
You’re kindly doing it to raise money for CHIPS – what’s your connection to the charity?
I am a parent Trustee for CHIPS, with a special interest in the charity as my son suffers from severe Autism. The charity is close to my heart, as over the years, CHIPS have allowed me time to strengthen our family unit, especially during tough times.
Give us a random fact about Nordic Walking?
I hear the Prime Minister is a keen Nordic Walker, so a letter to Number 10 inviting her to help us try and break the record will be on it’s way!
Don’t delay, as we think the tickets will go fast, so grab them quick!
