Blue Whale Challenge

We have been notified by Hertfordshire Constabulary of something on Social Media called The Blue Whale Challenge.  It is also known as A silent house, A sea of whales and Wake me up @ …am.  The challenge specifically targets vulnerable people and encourages them to engage in a series of increasingly dangerous behaviours, such as self-harm, scratching images of a blue whale or the figures F57 onto themselves.  Young people are also encouraged to wake up in the night or attempt to get to the top of high buildings.  Numbers to contact if you are worried about a young person are ChildLine (0800 1111), NSPCC – Keeping Children Safe Online Helpline (0808 800 5002).

 PAN Disability Football Sessions – Wednesday 26th April – Wednesday 24th May – 6.00-7.00pm for boys and girls aged 8-16 – first five weeks are free.  Limited spaces, please book before Friday 21st April by contacting Karen Stephanou, Disability Football Development Manager – karen.stephanou@watfordfc.com or 07841028229.

CHIPS Activity Clubs for 12-19 year olds  – new dates for the summer term

 Would your teenager be interested in attending any of our special activity clubs?

 Climbing Club, Essex Outdoors, Burnt Mill Lane, Harlow, Essex CM20 2QS –

Sundays 12.30-2.30pm –  14th May, 4th June, 9th July and 16th July 2017.

Age range has now been lowered to 10 years old.

  Cookery Club, Pinewood School, Hoe Lane, Ware SG12 9PB – Thursdays 7.00-9.00pm18th May, 8th June, 29th June and 6th July  (Cost includes all ingredients)

 Computer Club, Selections Children’s Centre, Hertford SG14 2DG

Tuesdays 23rd May, 6th June, 27th June and 4th July.  The club is currently full but please call the office to put your name on our waiting list.

Club will run on 27th May, 24th June and 22nd July – 10.00-11.30am.  The club is specifically for children aged 14+ but if your child is younger but would still be interested please contact the office to discuss.  Contact Gill at the office on 01992 534664 or email gill@chipsplay.org to book a space.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer and places must be booked in advance.

Sponsorship/Fundraisers/Donations:

The Pavement Chalk Art competition recently held at the Street Art Festival was a huge success, £91.43 was raised on the day.  Many thanks to Matt Cooper, Jackie Cole,Rhiannon Lowe and her daughter Isobel, Graham Nickson and his daughter Danique for running this event, and to those who visited and supported us on the day.

 

London Marathon – 23rd April

 A huge thank you to both of our Marathon runners, Mark Giles (Hoddesdon Parent Trustee) for  raising so far just over £1,000,  and Ben Winch (CHIPS friend) for raising so far £1,825.

CHIPS Spring Quiz

 The CHIPS Spring Quiz was a resounding success, with “The Sensations” team (pictured) the winners.  Many thanks to Andy, Ann, Jake & Danny Orpin for once again compiling and running the quiz.  Thanks also to Helen, Gill & Karen for marking, and to Hazel for standing up and saying a few words about CHIPS.  The amount raised was £820.

 

Simon Balle – Non-Uniform Day

Thank you to Waitrose, Hertford for choosing CHIPS as one of the charities to receive a percentage of the Community Matters Green Token Award.  A cheque was received for £431.00.

Many thanks to John Dodsworth  (friend of Bishops Stortford parent) for donating £500  to CHIPS after completing the London marathon.
