Summer 2017 – Volunteer Fundraisers Needed!

Looking to have some fun for a good cause this summer? We’ve got the perfect solution!

CHIPS are looking to recruit volunteers for some events we have going on this Summer:

17th June – Bishops Stortford Carnival. We’ll be having a stall at the Carnival, so we’ll need volunteers to run that and hold donation buckets.

1st July – Ware Carnival. We’ll be having a team of people with collecting buckets at the Carnival.

15th July – GSK Community Day, Ware. We’ll be looking for a team of people to help on the day.

At all the events you’ll be provided with a CHIPS teeshirt if you don’t already have one. The more engaging you are with a big smile, the more we’ll hopefully collect on the day, so don’t be afraid to dive in and get chatting to people!

If you’d like to come and give us a hand raising money for CHIPS, please drop us an email to, or call the office on 01992 534664. If you cant make any of the dates but are still interested in helping CHIPS, please do still give the office an email or call – we have events and volunteer opportunities all year round and would love to hear from you.

Stortford Charity Car Wash Raises Over £950

Incoming Bishops Stortford Mayor kicks off year of fundraising with car wash for CHIPS Charity!

On the 16th of May, Pro Valet held a special car wash day at Jackson Square Car Park in Bishop’s Stortford and taking donations for CHIPS. The day itself was been organised in conjunction with incoming Mayor of Bishops Stortford, Councillor Colin Woodward to kickstart his year of fundraising.

CHIPS was also in attendance to give out information on what they do, and how people can get involved in the Charity. In addition to raising this fantastic total we were really pleased to have the opportunity to have a presence in the town to raise our profile. During the day we received a lot of positive feedback from the public. We had a number of enquiries about staff and volunteer positions too!

A massive thank you to Bujar and all the team at ProValet, Cllr Woodward, the CHIPS Volunteers, everyone who came and supported us, and the people of Stortford for the warm welcome. We wish Cllr Woodward all the very best for his year as Mayor, and we look forward to attending the Stortford Carnival on the 17th of June – we hope to see you all there!

CHIPS Volunteers – Volunteer Week 2016

CHIPS has an incredible group of volunteers. Without them, we simply wouldn’t be able to offer the services and support to our families that we do.

Each year, our play worker volunteers who work directly with our young people, donate around 966 hours to each scheme! That’s a staggering 4,830 hours across all our five play schemes! If you equate that to how many smiles they create in that same time, the numbers really do hit home.

Behind the scenes CHIPS has a strong core of Trustees, who meet up around once a term, and help direct the charity. We also have incredible volunteers working on our fundraising, book keeping, payroll, maintenance, IT support and lots (lots!) more!

There are so many different ways that you can volunteer at CHIPS, and in each one, you’d be making an important contribution to what we do, so why not check out our Current Vacancies page to see if there are any areas you can help in. Even if you think you can contribute to somewhere we are not currently recruiting for, please do get in touch, as we’re always looking for new people to join the charity.

CHIPS Cookery Club Cookathon

The CHIPS Cookery Club recently took part in the Childrens Food Trust’s Big Cookathon.

CHIPS cookery club for children with special needs runs fortnightly in term time at a local special school in their food technology room. The adults supported the children (mainly on a one to one basis) who all have varying degrees of special needs. The group leader demonstrated the method first so the children could see what they needed to do. They peeled the potatoes first and got them cooking whilst they prepared the meat. They chopped the onions, peeled and diced the carrots and sautéed with the mince beef. Then they added the rest of the ingredients and simmered gently. One of the group is vegetarian and she made a cannellini bean vegetable pie. The group leader made a vegetarian pie using green lentils. The children mashed the potatoes and added crème fraiche which made it a light and creamy texture.

All the staff and children tasted both the cottage pie and the vegetarian pies whilst having a break. They all get involved in washing up and putting way the utensils. They cleared up while the pies were baking and took them home to eat with their families. One family reported that their son doesn’t usually eat mince because of the texture but he ate 2 cottage pies as he had made them!
